Students
In order to be disregarded for Council Tax as a Student , you must meet one of the following criteria:
- you must be enrolled on a full-time course of education at a prescribed educational establishment.
- a full time course of education is one which lasts for at least one academic year or at least one calendar year.
- the course must be one where it is required to undertake periods of study, tuition or work experience (at the premises of the establishment or otherwise) for a period of at least 24 weeks in each academic or calendar year, and which together amount in such academic or calendar year to an average of at least 21 hours per week.

Your application must include a 'student certificate'. These are made available by the education establishment you attend so please contact them to obtain this ahead of making your application. A student certificate must include:
- the name and address of the educational establishment issuing the certificate
- the full name of the student to who it is issued
- the student's date of birth
- a statement certifying that the person is (or has) followed a course of education as a student
- the date when the person became a student and the date when that person's course is expected to end (or has ended).
