How Can I Protect my Home? (Sanctuary Scheme)

What are my options for protecting my home?

The Sanctuary Scheme provides victims of domestic violence and hate crime a way to stay safe in their home and stop them from becoming homeless. It does this by providing improved home security. This is just one option available to victims of domestic violence

What security measures does the Scheme provide?

  • Extra locks and bolts
  • Extra latches on windows
  • Door bell with cameras
  • Stronger doors
  • Spy holes or chains for doors
  • Better security lighting
  • Police portable alarm
  • A fortified safe room you can go to and wait for help from the police
  • A fire safety survey via the Fire and Rescue Service. A Police Crime Prevention Officer will visit your home to recommend what safety measures are required

For 24/25 we have been granted funding to provide the option of sanctuary to our clients. The Sanctuary Scheme allows us to apply on behalf of open-case clients safety fittings that can be applied to their property. This can include locks, alarms and minor repairs to unsafe doors, etc.

Clients may choose to stay in their own property rather than moving to new accommodation and start again in a new area. Sanctuary can increase the security of their property enabling them to remain in their home.

Clients that we apply for must have full cases open with Refuge and be working with an IDVA for continuity.

Once the client has had Sanctuary fitted they will then be in “Safe Accommodation”.
