Taxi and private hire licensing

Have your say about proposed changes to the Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Policy (The Taxi Policy).

Proposed changes to the policy are designed to ensure licensed drivers, vehicles, and operators working in the district continue to be of the highest standard.

There are a number of changes included in the draft policy including:

• vehicle ages
• the driver application process
• the vehicle application process
• introducing a points based enforcement system
• introducing conditions for the use of trailers

This is the first major review of the our taxi policy for some years and incorporates revised statutory guidance together with new best practice guidance as issued by the Department of Transport.

Key stakeholders will be notified, together with licence holders, councillors, agencies, members of the public, and neighbouring authorities.

This consultation runs from Thursday 1st February 2024 and the last date for comments or objections is Thursday 3rd May 2024.
