Storm Henk recovery grants FAQs
Advice and information about Storm Henk recovery grant schemes for North Warwickshire residents and businesses affected by internal flooding as a result of the January storm.
What is internal flooding?
Internal flooding is where flood water has entered the inside of a property.
How will you determine whether my property was flooded internally?
We are aware of some properties and businesses that have been flooded. For other households and businesses, we will visit the property in due course.
When will you visit?
We will contact you to arrange a visit.
How do you check that the property was unliveable?
A property is classified as ‘unliveable’ if you can’t live in it because of water damage, and cooking or heating appliances not working.
How long will the schemes run for?
Applications for all grants and discounts will close on 25 March 2024. All eligible grants will be paid by 12 April 2024 (subject to confirmation).
What evidence will I need to provide?
Your application form will tell you what evidence we need, this will include:
Community Recovery Grant
- Bank account details – these must be for the applicant.
- Pictures of flooding, if you have them.
- Evidence of your residency if you are not named as liable for Council Tax at the property, for example a tenancy or license agreement.
Business Recovery Grant
- Bank account details of the business operating on the premises flooded.
- Evidence of your insurance policies or evidence that you have attempted to obtain insurance for the premises after January 2023.
We reserve the right to withhold relief, discounts or payments where we have been unable to satisfactorily establish your eligibility.
How do I apply?
Apply for a community recovery grant / council tax discounts
Apply for a business recovery grant / business rate relief
How do I apply if I am unable to use the online form?
Your family or friends may be able to complete the application on your behalf. If you are digitally excluded, call Customer Services on 01827 715341 and we will be in touch to arrange completion of an application with you by phone.
How long will it take to make a decision?
We are aiming to make decisions within ten working days of a completed application (with all evidence being provided). Payment will then be made as soon as possible.
What if my application is rejected and I disagree with that decision?
If you disagree with our decision, you can email customerservices@northwarks.gov.uk, stating the reason(s) why.
How will I receive a grant payment?
Grants will be paid by direct bank transfer, subject to you providing valid bank details which match those on your application.
Eligible Council Tax Discounts and Business Rates Relief will be applied directly to the relevant account. You will receive an updated bill confirming this.
Council tax and business rates accounts will not be placed in credit as a result of this scheme. Flood recovery grants will only be paid after other reliefs and discounts have been applied.
How can I receive the Community Recovery Grant if I do not have a bank account in my name?
Email customerservices@northwarks.gov.uk and we will discuss alternative means of payment.
