Discretionary Housing Payments are intended to provide short-term financial assistance to help with housing costs for those who receive Housing Benefit or Universal Credit (Housing element included).

What is the purpose of Discretionary Housing Payments?

Discretionary Housing Payments provide further financial assistance, over and above any welfare benefits, when help with housing costs is required. They cannot be used for any other purpose.

Who qualifies for Discretionary Housing Payments?

Anyone in receipt of Housing Benefit or Universal Credit (Housing element included) who requires short-term assistance with housing costs, such as rent.
