Community Orchards - Open
Halting the climate emergency will require us to reach net-zero emissions whilst also expanding and supporting nature and biodiversity. In order to achieve this North Warwickshire Borough Council successfully bid as part of a consortium to the Coronation Living Heritage Fund for the creation of community orchards across the region.
As Community orchards grow the trees will pull carbon down from the atmosphere helping to have a small impact on reducing emissions. Other benefits will see nature supported by providing nectar for insects and homes for other species. Additionally by providing space for residents to play an active role in supporting green space in their communities we hope residents will feel more connected to their area, their local biodiversity and their community.
To ensure these benefits are maximised across the region we are asking that anyone interested in planting a community orchard in North Warwickshire complete a form. Information required will be;
- Who will be managing the orchard? (Community group, organisations, etc)
- Where the site is? (A park, underutilised area, etc)
Applications will be assessed with the support of Warwickshire County Council to select suitable orchard locations.
We hope to use the entire allocation of funding from the Coronation living heritage fund so are hoping to receive as many applications as possible in North Warwickshire.
